How to distinguish between end mills and face mills?

In the understanding of milling cutter we can usually see a variety of shapes of milling cutter, so how to distinguish them? 

Milling cutter is mainly divided into end milling cutter and face milling cutter.

 

End mills are used to process grooves and stepped surfaces, etc. The cutter teeth are on the circumference and end face, and cannot be fed in the axial direction during operation. Axial feed is possible when the end mill has end teeth that pass through the center.

The face milling cutter is a milling cutter with the top surface, which is a disc type, and can only be cut with the edge of the end face;

End mills are mostly used for vertical finishing: milling grooves, spiral grooves and holes;

 

Both face milling cutters and ball nose milling cutters are face milling cutters: milling planes, grooves

In simple terms, end mills are mostly used for finishing drilling and groove milling; face milling cutters are mostly used for milling planes, which is a larger plane processing.
